Example plant recordings with different electrodes

Two types of electrodes were tested on two species of plant (Bizzie Lizzie and Choisya):

♦ Clamp (crocodile clip with soft aluminum tape liner)

♦ Needle (medical style)

Electrical activity was simultaneously record on:

♦  4 single channel PhyLink units

♦  1 eight channel PICO ADC-24

Choisya Clamp COM6 Channel A
Bizzie Lizzie Clamp COM5 Channel B
Choisya Needle COM7 Channel C
Bizzie Lizzie Needle COM8 Channel D

Without shielding (click here for guide to Faraday Cage) the level of background electrical noise can (depending on the environment) be  +/- 0.5 mV. Measuring plant signals of lower amplitude than the background noise can be challenging.
